The virus initially stated that after the alotted time period, the decryption keys would be destroyed and the data would be unrecoverable. Thanks to security experts, many of those infected with Cryptolocker can now recover their files without paying the ransom the virus was originally requesting. 

A database of these keys have been recovered and an online portal has been set up to help restore the data to those affected.
